My children all graduated from Denton ISD, 3 different kids, 3 different experiences. I have learned to navigate in the district through my participation on several committees throughout the district, schools, and city boards and committees.

Denton has done a great job in college readiness, as two of mine are college graduates; however, college may not be the route some of our students take. We have to continue to provide alternate choices for students who decide to skip the college route. That is why we have programs at the Advanced Technology Center to provide certifications in other professions. As we saw recently, we need to increase the workforce with more Electricians, Plumbers, and HVAC Technicians through partnerships with our local community colleges.

Just being plugged in, those crucial decisions not only make our kids college ready and career ready but also life ready.  In order to ensure that, we have to ensure that we have the best and the brightest teachers and administrators. We have to ensure that our teachers have the tools and the resources and support to stay on the cutting edge.  I realize that the time that I grew up during to now has changed and comes with a different set of challenges for parents in terms of raising kids.  That is why educating children in a partnership with the teachers, parents, kids and the district is so important. I want to make sure that we continue our partnership and make it even stronger.  Again, in addition to making our kids college ready and career ready, they need to be life ready.
